Latino Policy Coalition Statement on Todays Ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan R. Bolton on Arizonas SB 1070 Law

SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- The Latino Policy Coalition, a national non-partisan, non-profit consortium of the countrys leading Latino research organizations, issued the following statement today following the ruling by U.S. District Judge Susan R. Bolton concerning the U.S. Justice Departments suit challenging the legality of the state of Arizonas recently enacted law - SB 1070.

"Todays ruling by Judge Susan R. Bolton is a major blow to the fanatic fringe that supports racial profiling of Latinos. This is a tremendous victory for everyone who has faith in the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Justice Department and the Courts have done their job well. Now it is time for Congress and the White House to do theirs and end this epidemic of xenophobic fear mongering by enacting comprehensive immigration reform," said Latino Policy Coalition Chairman Jim Gonzalez.

"It is time for Governor Brewer and her extremist colleagues, including Senator Russell Pearce, and Sherriff Joe Arpaio, to end their love affair with racial profiling; and stop driving a wedge between law enforcement and the community."

"SB 1070 is a hate crime against Latinos masquerading as an official act. Be assured that millions of immigrant voters will continue to watch closely and fight copycat legislation in other states," continued Gonzalez.

"Judge Boltons decision today affirms that is time for national unity and an immediate and national civil rights drive toward comprehensive immigration reform," concluded Gonzalez.
