Each year OSHA receives thousands of complaints from workers exposed to unsafe or unhealthful conditions. Every employee deserves a safe place to work. These are some of the questions we receive from workers and our responses:
1. What do I do if I am exposed to unsafe or unhealthful conditions at work? Workers have a right to talk to their employers (supervisor, manager or your safety committee) about unsafe conditions and, if necessary, to call the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
2. Who is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)? OSHA’s role is to assure the safety and health of America’s workers by setting and enforcing the rules, providing training, outreach, and education. OSHA encourages employers to continually seek ways to improve the safety and health of their employees.
3. If I am an undocumented worker, will OSHA report me to another federal agency, such as the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)? No. ICE is part of Homeland Security and OSHA is part of the Department of Labor. OSHA is concerned with worker safety and reducing workplace injuries and fatalities, regardless if someone is documented or undocumented.
4. How do I contact OSHA? You can contact OSHA at any of the local Area Offices or at the Regional Office. Your local OSHA office may be visited at: 49 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg, PA or may be contacted by phone at (717) 782-3902 during normal business days between 08:00 AM and 4:30 PM. You may also call 1-800-321-OSHA (6742) to submit a complaint.
5. What information do I need to provide? Give as much complete and accurate information as possible. The investigator will need details relating to the hazard and the workplace to
